The Salomon Adventure Challenge is the FASTEST GROWING Adventure Race Series in Canada!

Designed as a fun, first step into adventure racing, each event thrills you, inspires you, and leaves your team with a thirst for more. No experience is necessary to participate and over 90% of teams feel the rush of reaching the finish line. Adventure racing rookies and veterans agree, the Salomon Adventure Challenge Series is ADDICTIVE!

During the SUMMER AND WINTER months, Open and Coed teams of three participate in a 5-8 hour adventure, covering roughly 40+ km using a variety of human-powered methods - Canoes, Mountain Bikes and on Foot.!

Each Salomon Adventure Challenge we stage draws on our years of experience as Canada's top adventure racing team and through organizing over 40 wilderness-based races since 1998. This guarantees that your team will be treated to an impeccably organized and incredibly fun challenge that offers a true taste of the spirit of adventure racing.

2004 SALOMON ADVENTURE CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

In 2003 we saw the explosion of the Salomon Adventure Challenge into the largest AR series in Canada. To broaden the appeal of this series, we are formalizing the all-female team category, and we have created the Salomon Adventure Challenge Canadian Championship. At each Salomon AC in 2004, the top three teams from all three categories (all-female, all-male, mixed) will earn spots into the championship, with the winning teams gaining free entry, second-place teams earning 50% off the championship, and third-place teams earning 25% off. The SAC Canadian Championship race will be a 10-14 hour race (like the popular Buckhorn 2003 race), held during our FAR Championship Week at the end of September, at the same location as the RTN Canadian Championship, but on the preceding weekend.

To make this a true championship series, we have raised the stakes: the winning team in each category at the Salomon AC Canadian Championship race will win an incredible prize: a full year of free Salomon Adventure Challenge races in 2005! To help you get ready for this race, we are also having another long-format race that will take place earlier in the season.

Categories: We now have 3 categories: Men's, Women's, and Mixed.

Advanced: We have introduced the Advanced Section to races.  Teams that complete the advanced section of the race and finish the course in time will automatically be ranked higher than teams that finish the course without the advanced section--even if they cross the finish line first!  More details about the Advance Section will be posted in the near future.

Long-Format:  Due to the popularity of the long-format race at Buckhorn in 2003, we have decided that the Salomon AC Canadian Championship will be a 10-14 hour race.  Don't worry--we have another 10-14 race earlier in the summer to help you practice.

Prizing: The top 5 teams get medals and prizing from our sponsors, including AR gear from Salomon.  The top 3 teams also get discounts to the SAC Championship. (more below)

Championship Series:  At the Salomon AC Canadian Champs, the top teams in each category win BIG:

1st place: FREE ENTRY to all SAC races for 2005!
2nd place: 50% off all SAC races for 2005!
3rd place: 25% off all SAC races for 2005!

The SAC Championship will take place during Championship Week, held at Calabogie Resort on September 17th-18th, 2004.

Where To Begin

Wondering how to get started in adventure racing? Here's some great tips to get you going:

  • Jump Right In - Just get two friends and learn by doing. Remember, no experience is necessary and over 90% of teams finish the racecourse. This is what most people do so pick a race and have a blast!

  • Volunteer - See the action first hand! From Checkpoints to Basecamp, Volunteering is THE way to see what AR is like without actually competing. FAR Inc. strives to put people in whatever role they wish.

  • Get Schooled - Take one of our many Adventure Racing Training courses. Taught by some of Canada's leading adventure racers,  you just can't go wrong!

  • Get To The Expo - By attending the Canadian Adventure Racing Expo on May 2nd, 2004 at Ontario Place (Toronto), you'll dive right into all that is AR.

  • Read Up - Head to the AR Resource Centre and soak in the information. Another great data-piece is past Race Summaries (images, story, stats).

  • Give Us A Call - FAR Inc. are the pioneers of AR in Canada and we love talking about the sport. Call us anytime (Toronto: 416-783-4464, Calgary: 403-670-0466).
